5 things you need to know about ICHSPD



Depicted in the five rays of the logo is the strength in developing sustainable communities based on the five ekistic elements of Constantino Doxiadis: nature, networks, Anthropos, shells, and society. The colors bear the official colors of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Overall, it resembles the sun in the Philippine flag, rising and shining for a future with safe, inclusive, resilient and sustainable communities.

2. 1st ICHSPD

The first ICHSPD was held in AIM Conference Center, Makati City, Philippines on July 23-25, 2018 with the theme, “Tracking Efforts in Achieving Inclusive, Safe, Resilient, and Sustainable Communities.” ICHSPD2018 focused on the efforts and practices of academic and research institutions, government and non-government organizations towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11): to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

The three-day event was graced by the presence of Mr. Rollo of UN-HABITAT Philippines; Ms. Inhee Chung of Global Green Growth Institute, Sec Del Rosario of HUDCC; Mr. Dedicatoria of ICLEI Southeast Asia; Dr. Saroj of the University of Surrey, UK; Mr. Jegillos of UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub; and EnP. Quimpo of PIEP as keynote speakers.

ICHSPD is organized and hosted by the Department of Community and Environmental Resource Planning (DCERP) of the College of Human Ecology, University of the Philippines Los Banos.

DCERP was founded in 1983 and functions within the harmonizing framework of humans in relation to their environment. Its ultimate aim is to contribute towards the national goal of improving the quality of life and general well-being of the Filipino people.

Even before the pandemic, DCERP realizes the complex problems of our world today and would like to provide a venue for actors to collaborate, form partnerships and respond to global risks most felt in cities and communities. Through ICHSPD and its theme “Pursuing Resilient and Sustainable Human Settlements amid Global Risks,” the focus of the conference will pan out from the discussion of vital issues and challenges on human settlements planning and development, to the identification of solutions, best practices and opportunities in addressing sustainability and resiliency of human settlements; to the promotion of linkages and partnership among organizations and institutions working towards achieving safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities.
